We attended a star studded event on Friday 13th May 2016 as one of the sponsors of the St Helens & Knowsley Staff Awards evening. The event was held at the Echo Arena in Liverpool and was to acknowledge the achievements of all staff at the Trust for their outstanding contributions.
The Chief Executive Ann Marr opened the evening with her welcome speech and confirmed it had been the Trusts most successful year as being rated as an “Outstanding” trust and hoped that this would continue into 2017…. ms Marr then announced the Special Acievement Awards for 2016 and these 2 very special awards went to the Outpatients Department at St Helens & Whiston Hospitals and also to the Diagnostic Imaging Departments again at St Helens & Whiston Hospitals.
After a fantastic meal supplied by Heathcotes the highlight of the evening commenced. Each award was present by a local celebrity and the results are as follows:-
Excellence in Clinical Care – Breast reconstruction Team
Excellence in Service Improvement – Ward 3E Gynaecology
Excellence in Support Services – Patient Booking Services
Execellence in Patient Experience – Seddon Suite
The Peoples Choice Award – Ward 2A Haematology & Oncology
Employee of the Year – Claire Fraser – Sister, Emergency Department (Accepted by the consultant of emergency department her behalf)
Team of the Year – Stroke Team
The evening then went into full swing with entertainment from guest appearance Will Mellor & Ray Quinn with Cole Page & Schwing providing the music.
There is absolutely NO cost to the NHS event – it is funded purely through ticket sales, fundraising and generous donations from many of the Trusts partners.
Well done to St Helens & Knowsley Trust on organising a spectacular evening for your employees and recognising the hard work, dedication and achievements.
Our representatives from Healthcare Staff Benefits event managed to get in on some selfies! Joanne and Victoria here with Nicole Barber-Lane from Hollyoaks (Myra McQueen)
After the event we received a nice email from Kim Hughes- Head of Media PR & Communications from the trust:-
I just wanted to say a huge thank you for supporting this year’s St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Awards evening.
Without your very generous sponsorship we simply could not celebrate the amazing work of our staff in this (rather incredible) way.
I hope Joanne and Vicky enjoyed the evening, I’ve had some excellent feedback and everyone is already talking about next year’s event!
Thanks again for all your support it really is appreciated more than you will ever know.
Hope we can work together again soon……
Wednesday 11th & Thursday 12th May saw our team attend the Health & Wellbeing events hosted by Wirral Hospitals to promote healthy living at both sites for the Trust. We were asked by the Trust to donate a prize for a draw to be held at each site ands this time we gave away 2 “Nutribullets” which are the best smoothie makers, to again encourage health eating to the staff.
To enter the draw the staff were asked to pledge to themselves a promise to make their lifestyles healthier. This could be drinking less alcohol during the week, to eat at least 1 portion of fruit a day or to walk/cycle to walk a couple of times a week. The Health & Wellbeing team asked staff to pledge a promise of something they didn’t already do!!
We had lots of visitors to our stand and this gave us the opportunity to promote our scheme to them also. Staff were really pleased to learn we are going to be providing this scheme to them and the discounts that will be available!! Thousands of the HSB discount cards were distributed as well as information leaflets and Kath & Angie in HR promised to promote our scheme as much as possible and we have already been invited back to both Arrow Park and Clatterbridge to do promotions of local businesses once they have signed to our scheme.
A funding boost to support faster diagnosis of the disease could save 30,000 lives a year by 2020, it is claimed.
NHS England has announced plans to improve cancer care and give patients a definitive diagnosis within four weeks.
It is hoped a £15m investment boost will allow doctors to diagnose people suspected of having cancer within 28 days of them being referred by their GP.
The target was first proposed by Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt in October and an NHS report suggests the move could save 30,000 lives a year by 2020.

The NHS in England has had the busiest year in its history with more patients than ever seeking help, official figures show.
Nearly 23m people visited A&E in the 12 months to March 2016 – a rise of more than 500,000 from the previous year.
Delays rose throughout the period, with March itself having the single worst performance against the four-hour A&E target since it was introduced in 2004.
Targets for cancer, routine operations and ambulances have also been missed.
NHS England said the ongoing dispute with junior doctors had started having an impact, with the proportion of patients waiting more than 18 weeks for operations such as knee and hip replacements hitting its highest level.
A spokesman for NHS England also defended the figures, saying the proportion of people dealt with in four hours in A&E – 91.9% – was “almost certainly one of the best performances in the Western world” despite falling short of the 95% target.

Jeremy Hunt’s claim that more patients die in NHS hospitals at the weekend has ben challenged by new research suggesting his central assumption is based on flawed data.
Mr Hunt has cited a previous study by England’s Chief Medical Officer Sir Bruce Keough to make the case for seven-day NHS in England – and a new contract for junior doctors.
